Earn two cents in Cash Rewards for every $1 in eligible net purchases, subject to the Wells Fargo Rewards program terms.
Eligible new cardholders can currently earn $200 in Cash Rewards after $500 in net purchases within the first three months.
The current offer includes a 0% introductory APR for 12 months on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, followed by a variable APR.
There is currently no annual fee. International transactions are subject to a 3% foreign transaction fee.
The Wells Fargo Active Cash Visa is a straightforward cash-rewards credit card designed for consumers who prefer the same basic rewards rate across most eligible purchases instead of managing rotating categories or activating quarterly offers. The card is issued by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., and its current rewards structure provides two cents in Cash Rewards for every $1 in eligible net purchases.
For most qualifying purchases, cardholders earn the equivalent of 2% in Cash Rewards. Net purchases generally mean purchases after returns or credits have been deducted. Because the base rewards rate does not depend on categories such as groceries, restaurants or gas, the card can be easier to manage than cards that require consumers to keep track of different earning rates.
Wells Fargo states that Cash Rewards can be earned without a standard purchase-category cap, unless otherwise specified. Rewards may be redeemed through available Wells Fargo redemption options, including eligible cash redemption methods, travel, gift cards and other options provided by the rewards program. Cash Rewards do not expire while the associated credit card account remains open, subject to the program rules.
The current terms include a $200 Cash Rewards bonus for eligible new cardholders who make at least $500 in net purchases within three months of opening the account. Not every applicant will necessarily qualify for introductory rates or promotional rewards. Wells Fargo specifically states that eligibility may be affected if a consumer currently has the Active Cash card or opened one within the previous 48 months.
The card currently includes a 0% introductory APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and eligible balance transfers. After the introductory period, the purchase and balance-transfer APR becomes variable and is currently listed as 18.49%, 24.49% or 28.49%, depending on creditworthiness.
Balance transfers also have fees. During the introductory transfer period, the fee is currently the greater of $5 or 3% of the amount transferred for qualifying transfers made within the specified period. After that, the fee may increase. Consumers considering a balance transfer should compare the transfer fee with the amount of interest they expect to save.
The Wells Fargo Active Cash currently has no annual fee. However, it does charge a 3% foreign transaction fee on transactions converted to U.S. dollars. That means it may be less attractive than cards with no foreign transaction fee for frequent international travelers.
Other charges can also apply, including cash-advance fees, late-payment fees and interest after applicable introductory periods expire. Earning 2% in rewards generally does not offset the cost of regularly carrying a balance at the card’s standard APR.
The Active Cash can make sense for consumers looking for a simple, general-purpose cash-rewards card with no annual fee and a consistent reward rate on eligible purchases. Consumers who spend heavily in specific categories, frequently travel internationally or prefer premium travel benefits may want to compare other cards before making a decision.
